Photos of Stirling Castle in Scotland
Heading north to see Stirling Castle
These are my photographs from a really great day trip to Stirling Castle, taken during our amazing holiday with friends to Scotland in October 2018. This was not only my first ever visit to Stirling, but my first trip to Scotland, I had never been north of the lake district before.
We stayed in a place not far from Dundee, we were just around the corner from the Gleneagles golf course. Visiting castles like Stirling is much more interesting to me than golf will ever be, I admit it does nothing for me at all! (Sorry golf fans!).
A little about Stirling Castle
This ancient Scottish Fortress is an incredible place to visit for a day out or more, so much history dating right back to at least the 12th century. This impressive castle was the historic home of Mary Queen of Scots and King James to name just two of the royals that have lived there over the years. I wonder how many of histories most important people have stood on that castles battlements, looking out across the fields on clear days, during the hundreds of years that the castle has been at Stirling.
One day really wasn't long enough to take it all in, but I enjoyed it and was very happy with the photographs I managed to take there. I tried to photograph as much of Stirling Castle as I could, so I could share them and let other people see just what a beautiful place it really is. Some bits I couldn't get to, being disabled I sometimes struggle, especially with stairs etc. They have tried to make it as disabled friendly as possible, but when it was built it didn't need to be accessible for the disabled, in fact a secure fortress like this one being inaccessible was probably seen as a strong point!
I live in an area of East Sussex, England near multiple, great castles, they are all really good to visit and photograph (I often do), but none can quite compete with Stirling / Snowdoun Castle and the views from it. The whole place just oozes pure history, in a friendly understandable way. I hope one day I get to return to Stirling Castle for more photos, I can imagine that sunrise and sunset from the castle must be breathtaking.
About these photos
These photos of Stirling Castle and the beautiful views from the castle were all taken by myself (Dean Thorpe) with a Canon 70D DSLR digital camera, the wide shots I used a Sigma 10-20mm wide angle lens and all the others with an old Sigma 100-300mm zoom lens. All editing was done using Paintshop Pro.
