Jeremy Corbyn Labour leader in Hastings
17th of January 2019 at St Mary in the Castle, Hastings
On the 17th of January 2019 the Shadow Prime Minister Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn came to visit the seaside town of Hastings in East Sussex. Being local and a member of the Labour Party I was invited to come along, I wasn’t actually asked to take photos (I do a lot of event photography), but I wasn’t asked not to either! lol So I took my camera with me (I rarely leave home without a camera) and captured these scenes to share on my Facebook page and on this web site. Jeremy Corbyn and the other Labour Party MP’s visited a number of locations around Hastings, these photos were taken in St Mary in the Castle, but they also went to the Conquest Hospital and Sussex Coast College Hastings, I was only able to take photos at the one location, but we were lucky enough to get there in time to be in the front row, so we had an amazing view. As well as the hopefully future UK Prime Minister we had the Shadow Home Secretary Diane Abbott who is the Labour MP for Hackney North and Stoke Newington, Richard Burgon Leeds East Labour MP and is the Shadow Secretary of State for Justice and Shadow Lord Chancellor. Richard Burgon is also a heavy metal fan from what I have heard, so can’t be all bad!
Just before Jeremy Corbyn there was a short talk by Thelma Walker the Labour Party MP for Colne Valley constituency. Jeremy Corbyn focused on many subjects, from the mess Brexit is in to the need to get Peter Chowney who was also there and is the Labour MP for Hastings and Rye by beating Amber Rudd, the current Conservative MP for Hastings and Rye, plus the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions. In the last election Amber won the seat by less than 350 votes, a tiny and very beatable margin, especially in a town that she has made so many negative remarks about in the past. On a personal note as Dean Thorpe the creator of this site and the photographer behind these pictures, I have met Peter Chowney and Amber Rudd on numerous occasions over the years and even if I wasn’t a Labour supporter (this site is rather left wing and pro Labour Party in places, something I am proud of) then he would get my vote over her any day! There was talk from Jeremy Corbyn on many other issues, most memorable being education and health care, both of which are doing very badly under the current Tory government in my opinion. My normal rules apply to these photos, so feel free to use them for any non profit, non hateful purposes, commercial usage of these photos is not offered. The only exceptions are the Labour Party who may use these pictures for anything they want and St. Mary in the Castle may use the photos for anything connected to this event.
When Jeremy Corbyn came to St Leonards, which is right next to Hastings back in July 2017 I managed to get a really nice photo of my wonderful partner Helen and the Shadow Prime Minister at the event in Warrior Square. I printed an A4 copy of that photo out and we took it with us on the 17th of January which he very kindly signed for us, something which is now framed and up in our lounge.
I know this website gets many visitors from the US and if you are and don’t understand the whole Labour party and Conservative party thing then I support left wing / Labour / workers rights based politics, which in America would make me a Democrat. Right wing / Conservative / business rights based would be the Republican party. Some get confused as the two political parties use red and blue as their colours, but the opposite way round, so left wing is red here, but it’s blue in America and vice versa.
Next election please vote! I am not going to nag you to vote Labour, just to vote for whichever party you believe in for real reasons, don’t just vote for a party because your parents did or because you like or dislike the leader. Find out what all the parties actually stand for, learn about your local MP, make an informed choice, then go out there and vote! It’s something many people are denied the right to do in other countries and many have died fighting to get that right, so please don’t waste that right!!!
For the many, not the few!
