Photos of Hastings Jack In The Green 2019 All Saints Street Photos
About my Jack in the Green 2019 photos
These are my photos that were taken in the All Saints Street part of the 2019 Jack in the Green which is an amazing event held every year in Hastings, East Sussex. These show the big parade of hundreds of people, mostly drummers and morris dancers as it goes all around Hastings Old Town, ending up on West Hill.
It's very loosely based on a Pagan tradition which the very simplified version of is Jack who runs the winter side of the year is killed so the summer half of the year can begin and release the spirit of summer for this year, but you don't have to worry, Jack always returns in time for next winter to bring the cold! :)
Some people are trying to move the event away from any Pagan influences, but I think that would be a shame as although it’s origins are not quite Pagan it does have a very Pagan feel to it. This event is correctly timed to celebrate Beltane and is held roughly halfway the spring equinox and the summer solstice.
Hastings Jack in the Green 2019 is a huge festival feel event that tens of thousands of people go to every year and one I have been to many times over the years I have lived in the Hastings / 1066 area of East Sussex.
