Wyntercon 5 - 2018

So What Is Wyntercon?
Wyntercon is a family friendly Cosplay & Comic Con based in Eastbourne, East Sussex.
For those new to events like Wyntercon, Cosplay is abbreviated from Costume Play, so and event where you (optionally, but highly recommended) dress up as someone or something else, most commonly a character from TV, films, computer games or comic books, which gives you a chance to have lots of fun. There are very few limits (must be family friendly and probably not a good idea to wear something too offensive!) so let your imagination run wild. You DON'T have to look the character, you can just be inspired by one, you don't need to be the same size, colour or even gender (that's known as crossplay) as who you want to be.
Con is short for Convention, basically a place where like minded people meet up. It's great to look around and try to recognise the costumes, to make new friends, play board games, role play, take part in activities (my favourites at Wyntercon 5 were the light sabre classes taught by Silver Sabres and wand workshop taught by Jon Campling who was a Death Eater in the Harry Potter films and actually a very nice bloke too!) and a chance to buy lots of cool stuff, often things not available in shops. Unlike most other conventions Wyntercon is actually a registered charity and so is not all about profits, instead helping fund local projects. There are not as many big names there as some of the really huge conventions, but most people in my experience have better things to do than spend hours waiting to get an autograph anyway! lol
I was kindly invited to come along and take photos of the event by the organisers. Wyntercon is a really great event and one I am very proud to be associated with. This was my third year, I attended 2015, 2016 and 2018, I sadly wasn't up to going to 2017 and the original back in 2014 I didn't know much about. The weather was pretty bad the day I went (Saturday), but luckily it was held in an extremely huge tent!

The Wyntercon Mission Statement
My costume for Wyntercon 2018 was my own creation based on Malificent! Sadly we got half way there and realised my wings were hanging up on the back of the door at home :( So I had the horns and some make up that was far from perfect and was dressed all in black for most of the day, but I was happy and really enjoyed being an official part of Wyntercon again.
My plans for 2019?
I was going as a . . . you will have to wait and see! I will say it's one that will actually make taking photos easier! ;) If I can get everything to work! lol Sadly that plan has been put on hold for another year and now I am planning on just doing a traditional black and red Harley Quinn cosplay

plus there is a Facebook page too:
Wyntercon 6 will be held on the 28th and 29th of September 2019 and will be at the great new location: Eastbourne Sports Park, which will have better parking, something I heard a couple of complaints about at the 2018 one.
Hopefully these photos will inspire you to come along and join us all having a great fun weekend, I definitely won't be missing it, I don't get many chances to let my inner nerd loose in the outside world :)
I look forward to seeing lots of new people there!
