Coral Brighton & Hove Greyhound Stadium
About my visit to Brighton and Hove Greyhound Stadium
This was a complicated day for me emotionally! I do NOT support greyhound racing, but I am also open minded, so when I was given the opportunity to go on a cheap trip to the Coral Brighton and Hove greyhound stadium, I decided to give it a try. I didn't pay to get in, just the coach to get there and I didn't bet.
I love greyhounds, just not the stories you hear about their treatment. Most of the time the dogs did seem well treated, but I stood right next to the start and just before the races started the dogs were going really wild, sounding extremely aggressive, which is not normal for greyhounds, they did sound distressed. Humans get psyched up like that in some sports, but we know why we are doing it, we get to choose if we want to take part, we do well if we win, I hated to see the dogs like that just so that humans can bet on them.
A friend of mine once said "How do you find out if there is a Vegan in the room . . . You don't, they will tell you!" Now I'm not a Vegan, but I do really care about animal rights (which I know is a contradiction!), so I'm not going to apologise for my ranting about the industry. I DID enjoy the day out and it was interesting to actually be there and see it for myself, but I wouldn't go again.
Please think about the dogs, not only when they are doing well and making their owners money, but also what happens to them when they are too old of suffer injuries that mean they cannot race anymore :(
